Behren Morton injury update: Status of Texas Tech QB for the TCU game announced.
Texas Tech faced a significant injury during their game against TCU, with starting quarterback Behren Morton suffering a left shoulder injury, as reported by FOX. He exited the game early in the second half and went to the locker room, walking off the field with trainers while wearing a towel over his head and without his pads.
Later in the third quarter, FOX provided an update indicating that Morton would not return for the remainder of the game. When he returned to the Red Raiders’ sideline, he was not in uniform.
“Yeah, it looks like Behren Morton got hurt late in the first half with that shoulder injury. That’s all the details I have right now. However, I could see his frustration as he walked off the field, visibly upset about the injury. The team is managing well in his absence, and while he’s on the sideline wanting to support his teammates, he won’t be returning to the game,” the FOX sideline reporter mentioned.
Morton has had a standout season for the Red Raiders, completing 63.7% of his passes for 1,926 yards, along with 17 touchdowns and just three interceptions.
Now in the game for Texas Tech is Will Hammond, who delivered a stunning pass to give the Red Raiders a 24-14 lead over the Horned Frogs. He also added a rushing touchdown.
The game is currently in the second half and is being broadcast nationally on FOX.
Fortunately for the Red Raiders, Hammond has performed well despite having little time to warm up. A highly regarded dual-threat quarterback coming out of high school, he has an impressive stat profile to back it up. While at Hutto High School in Austin, Texas, Hammond amassed over 8,700 passing yards and 84 touchdowns during his career. Additionally, he contributed to one of the nation’s top offensive units, rushing for 2,344 yards and 37 touchdowns.
In his senior year, Hammond completed 61.3% of his passes for 3,901 yards and 35 touchdowns, while also adding 1,077 rushing yards and 19 touchdowns. He was named one of the 10 finalists for the Mr. Texas Football High School Player of the Year Award.
In the 2024 recruiting cycle, Hammond was ranked as the No. 11 overall quarterback in the country according to the On3 Industry Rankings.
